Anti Artist Statement

In regards to the question referring to the aboutness of my work I must first reply in saying that a definitive aboutness has absolutely no relation to it. I want no part in creating a work born of the intellect. That’s not to say that such work has no place but to say that intellect is secondary to creativity, I go to galleries to be moved emotionally and spiritually, not to be subject to the opinion of some faux intellectual with no imagination, dream, or the most captivating feature, obsession.

I have been continuously harassed about the meaning of my work for the last few years, by my instructors and students, as no fault of their own but the curriculum, and have developed a sort of disgust with this attitude that all works of art have to be analyzed and intellectualized to the point that it could be considered a sort of rape. It is this disgust and genuine disenchantment with the art world that I have developed over the last while that I have found an answer to these never ending queries. My work is about nothing.

However, this lack of aboutness is an aboutness in it self, much as Nihilism is till a belief system. It acts a kind of unmovable pillar, standing and saying that meaning, interpretation, and the intellectual qualities are not important, a work of art can stand on its own. I create for nothing more than the joy I get from committing acts of art.
